From 3D Scan to CAD (Computer Aided Design)
After scanning, a Point Cloud (point cloud) is available. This point cloud contains 3D information in the form of millions of dots in X, Y, Z coordinates. We can convert these points into 3D CAD models using specialist and smart software. We can automatically/semi-automatically generate pipes, construction, ventilation and cable ducts from the point cloud. In different LOD (level of detail).
Scanning is a visual technique, so we cannot see through things. This is important to know. If there are pipes with insulation, we only see the outside. This also applies to structures that have been treated with fire resistance or suspended ceilings. A number of plates could be removed from there to be able to model what is above the ceiling.
3D scanning service on location
With your request, we would like to hear what you want documented, how much detail you want and whether you want the scans in color or black and white. This forms the basis for a scan plan.
Depending on the type of project, a reference grid of scan positions is plotted in areas where a lot of equipment will make the distance between the scan positions smaller than in the more open parts.
We like to scan into this flexible grid to document as much as possible. Each scanning position only takes a few minutes, so it does not require any work to be supported.
During scanning, all scans are integrated into a point cloud model. Based on your wishes, this can be translated into a 3D CAD model. We coordinate the execution on location in such a way that there is as little inconvenience as possible due to the scanning work during scanning in your company. We do recommend that the staff at the scanning location is informed about scanning in your company.
Safety when scanning.
Safety plays a leading role in project preparation. All our employees are therefore fully VCA certified. In addition, depending on the customer and location, additional safety training is followed if required. Our latest Faro Premium scanner has Laser class 1 and is harmless to people and machines.
What is laser scanning
Laser scanning is a measuring method in which objects are scanned by laser technology. This could be a building still under construction, or a complex installation, but also entire factories or ships. Whatever you think of it, our experienced scan engineers have already documented it. With 20 years of experience, we know exactly what to say to visualize everything completely for you. A laser scanner sends out laser pulses at high speed and 360° around itself. For each pulse, the distance and color value are calculated between the scanner and the measured object, creating a 3D image with grayscale colors that consist of millions of dots in the x. ,y,z direction that call with a point cloud (point cloud) this point cloud is very valuable and can serve as a digital copy with included viewer software you can measure, create labels, add photos and export them in various formats.
What should you pay attention to with laser scanning?
- Laser scanning is a visual technology that allows us to see everywhere.
Many scans are therefore needed to document everything as completely as possible. - 100% coverage can of course never be guaranteed.
- The accuracy depends on many factors, such as reflexivity, vibration, sunlight, temperature, dust.
Ergo Design was the first in the Netherlands, it started with laser scanning, now 20 years later we have reliable the latest Faro laser scanners, this scanner is also frequently used worldwide among our regular customers, but more and more new customers are also finding us. We distinguish ourselves through quick responses, flexible attitude and service, which are greatly appreciated by our customers.
