3D Clash Detection

The point cloud as a ‘digital fingerprint’ of reality can be used as:

• A clash detection tool with a 3D CAD model of a new installation.
• A control mechanism for new construction by comparing with architectural drawings or CAD models.

Prevention is better than cure!

Identifying and resolving issues early in the design phase is key. In one case, a client’s design contained over 1,500 clashes, most of which were fortunately resolved during the engineering phase.

During inspections of (new) buildings, we regularly encounter discrepancies between design and reality. In several instances, we discovered that the building was smaller than indicated on the drawings—sometimes by over a meter.
Verification is essential! Afterward, an ‘as-built’ update of the drawings can be generated.
