To document an international brewery project, the engineering agency responsible for the brewery installations chose 3D laser scanning to record the “as-built” situation.

The 3D laser scans and already available 2D documentation are used as the basis for creating a complete 3D CAD model with ‘Piping, Equipment, Cable trays, HVAC’, etc. In this way the engineering office can handle the ‘as built’ situation document themselves and the customer, and also test the connection to the new installation.

The on-site scanning of 3 tank buildings, 2600 square meters, was carried out in 1 day. A Factory Referencing Grid has been applied to record future adjustments / extensions. The digital factory can therefore be consulted visually in photo quality on every laptop for all engineers and measured in millimeter accuracy. A huge advantage compared to the traditional way of traveling, taking photos and measuring them manually.
